Years Protecting Motorcyclists' Rights
Harrisburg, PA - The Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education (A.B.A.T.E.) will hold its 31st Annual Motorcyclist
Rights Rally on Monday, May 19, at 1:00 PM, at the state capitol in Harrisburg. The event will kick off the 2008 riding
season with a proclamation by the governor, designating May as Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month.
Addressing the
hundreds of motorcyclists from across the state will be Kevin Snyder, State Coordinator of A.B.A.T.E. of PA. Mr. Snyder is
a long-time advocate for motorcyclists' rights and safety. He will be speaking on the legislative challenges facing
PA's motorcyclists in 2008, one of which includes a proposal to reinstate a mandatory helmet requirement for ALL Pennsylvania
motorcyclists. Supporting Mr. Snyder will be Assistant State Coordinator, Mark Schultz, and A.B.A.T.E.'s Legislative
Coordinator, Tom Christofes.
Also attending the Rally will be elected members of the PA House and Senate, along with
speakers on motorcycle safety and freedom of choice. Invited guests include Governor Ed Rendell, Lieutenant Governor Catherine
Baker Knoll, and members of the Pennsylvania House and Senate. Special Recognition will be given to those members of
the PA House and Senate that are active motorcyclists.
Representative Harry Readshaw will be giving on update on his
Readshaw's Raiders project, and thanking A.B.A.T.E. for its continued support of the Ride to Gettysburg. To date, A.B.A.T.E.
has raised $65,000 for the restoration of Gettysburg's monuments, and the Historic Daniel Lady Farm.
Following the
introduction of speakers will be the presentation of ABATE of PA's prestigious Clarence D. Bell Scholarship awards.
The recipients of the awards are selected based on essays and good standing in A.B.A.T.E. of PA. The scholarships are
given in the late Senator's honor to keep his memory alive and to encourage our younger members to further their education.
The Rights Rally is a Rain or Shine event. All motorcyclists are invited and encouraged to participate!
A
commemorative patch will be given to the first 1,000 bikers on Rally Day.

legislators, and voter registration promotion.
Since 1983, A.B.A.T.E. has represented the interests of
motorcyclists riding Pennsylvania's roads. Through a variety of programs, A.B.A.T.E. is working to protect and preserve
